John Weymes trains from the beautiful restored and refurbished Ashgill Stables. From here, John continues the family tradition of training racehorses, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather before him.
John took over the licence in January 2000 with only 11 horses, now Ashgill is at it's fullest with 33 of the 35 boxes full. In the past 8 years John has sent out group placed horse and had runners at Royal Ascot, Glorious Goodwood and Longchamp in France.
John's aim is to continually improve the quality of the horses rather than the quantity, in doing this he makes him self available to attend the sales from Newmarket , Doncaster , Ireland , Deauville and Keenland. He also attends the foal sales with his partner and assistant Kirsty who also runs a successful breeding and pinhooking operation from a yard near Darlington.
2007 started well with a good all weather campaign. After a slow start to the new flat season our good form resumed and we finished the season with 76 horses finishing in the frame, including 16 winners, from 216 runners which represents a strike rate of over 35%. Our 2 year olds alone gained a massive 50% strike rate of winners to races entered. The best month of the year for us was July when we sent out six winners, three of them being returned at 33-1, and this included two doubles in five days.
The main Racing Partnerships, for whom we train, High Moor Racing, Lovely Bubbly Racing, Rosemary's Racing and Sporting Occasions, also enjoyed a successful season with all of them having multiple winners and a healthy average strike rate of over 19%. We are now looking forward to a successful 2008 season so if you have ever considered getting involved in racing ownership yourselves why not take your interest a step further.
